A 5-minute end-of-day ritual
Stop work at a time you choose, with nothing rattling around in your head.
Shutdown walks you through closing the day: catch every loose end, choose tomorrow's top 3, and switch off properly. Tomorrow morning, your plan is waiting.
The problem
"I can't stop working."
When the commute disappeared, so did the end of the workday. Now work doesn't stop. It fades out.
One more thing
You mean to stop at six. Then it's seven, then you're answering Slack from the sofa.
Loops that won't close
The half-done tasks keep running in the background all evening, and sometimes at 2am.
Mornings that start in fog
You open the laptop and spend the first hour working out what you were doing.
It isn't a willpower problem. You just don't have a clear moment where work ends. Shutdown gives you one.
How it works
Three calm steps. Under five minutes.
You pick a stop time. Fifteen minutes before, you get a gentle nudge to start wrapping up. Then:
-
Open loops
Every unfinished task, one at a time. For each, choose: tomorrow, later this week, park it, or drop it. Tasks come straight from Todoist or Linear, so there is nothing to retype.
-
Tomorrow’s top 3
Pick the three things that matter tomorrow, with your calendar alongside so the plan fits the day you actually have. Mark one as the first thing you’ll do.
-
Close
“Shutdown complete.” Your Slack status changes to “Offline until 9am” so nobody expects a reply. That’s the end of the workday, on purpose.
The next morning
A one-minute pickup.
Open the app and your plan is already there: today's top 3, the first thing marked, and a focus timer ready to go. No fog, no inbox spiral. You just start.
Who it's for
For people whose work doesn't end on its own.
If you have ADHD
Stopping is hard when the next task is always right there, and a half-finished thought can follow you all evening. The ritual gives your brain a clear edge: everything is written down, nothing is lost, you can let go.
If you’re always on
Remote and hybrid work took away the commute, and with it the moment work ended. If your laptop stays open until bedtime "just in case", this puts the ending back.
If you’re a freelancer
Several clients, several task lists, nobody telling you when to stop. One short check-out across all of it, so evenings belong to you again.
If you lead a team
You carry everyone’s loose ends. Park them somewhere safe, set an honest status, and model the kind of switching off you want your team to feel allowed to do.
No streaks. No points. No guilt if you skip a day. Just a kind, steady way to finish.
Works with your tools
Your tasks and calendar are already somewhere. We go there.
No new to-do list to maintain. Shutdown reads what you already use.
- Todoist or LinearYour unfinished tasks, pulled in automatically
- Google Calendar or Apple CalendarTomorrow's meetings next to your top 3

FAQ
Questions, answered
How much will it cost?
Pricing isn’t set yet. We’re talking to early users first so it’s fair. Everyone on the waitlist hears about it before launch, and early supporters get a launch offer.
What if I miss a day?
Nothing happens. No streaks to break, no sad notifications, no guilt. Tomorrow’s nudge comes at the usual time and you can pick up where you are. Some days just end messily, and that’s fine.
Which devices does it work on?
iOS first, plus a web app you can use from any computer. A Mac menu-bar app comes later.
Which tools does it connect to?
At launch: Todoist or Linear for your tasks, Google Calendar or Apple Calendar for your day, and Slack for your status. More integrations will follow based on what people ask for.
What do you do with my data?
For the waitlist we store only your email and, if you choose, which description fits you. We use it to tell you when the app is ready, and we delete it whenever you ask. The app itself will only read what it needs to run your ritual, and we never sell data.
Is it another productivity app that makes me feel behind?
No. There are no points, badges or scores. It’s a short, calm routine with one job: helping you stop, and making tomorrow morning easier.
